Would the American public pay money to watch public executions?
I am very sure that if people could see criminals executed on TV or in public, the crowds would be very large and folks would even pay to see someone get the dirt nap before their eyes. Despite our technological advancements, I think perhaps that even the most educated and sophisticated among us would resort to their base level behavior of getting a rush from seeing someone die. How do I know this? The Spiderman musical ticket sales soared when the actors and the stunt doubles began to be injured on and above the stage. Also, look at all the money that folks paid to see Evel Knievel risk his neck doing stunts. They weren’t paying just to see the show and bright red white and blue costumes. They wanted to see Evel Knievel buy it in a bad accident.
I believe that if Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Circus advertised "Come see a human sacrifice", the ticket sales would double, if not triple. They would make massive money if the circus could legally make a deal with death row inmates to agree to be executed in a circus ring instead of in the lethal injectiom room (or gas chamber. And that if the death row inmates would agree for maybe a ,000 payment to their families, to let themselves recieve their death penalties before the audience, and bill it as "the human sacrifice", then the ticket sales would explode. It would be a win-win situation. The state would save money on the execution, the inmate’s family would receive money they otherwise would not receive, and the circus would win over large audiences who thought that circuses only have dancing dogs, trick ponies, and clowns stuffed into small cars. Am I nuts, or would the American public pay money to watch public executions?
